Comprehensive Health Investment Project (CHIP)

AkiraAkira

The Comprehensive Health Investment Project (CHIP) helps low-income families with young children (birth to six) and pregnant women to find and use appropriate health care.

The program also provides families with education and support, increasing family self-sufficiency and autonomy.

CHIP’s services are based on a team approach using nurses and home visitors who:

  • Help families secure access to a medical and dental home for their young children. Establishing a relationship with a primary care physician and dentist promotes cost effective prevention services.
  • Conduct child health and developmental screening, home safety and family risk assessments.
  • Provide education on health, nutrition, parenting, money management, and other family needs.
  • Coordinate social services such as housing and employment through case management.

CHIP serves families living in Williamsburg, James City County, and Upper York County.

Funding for the program is provided by CHIP of Virginia, the City of Williamsburg , James City County, the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation, the United Way of Greater Williamsburg, the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters Foundation and other private contributions.
